According to IndieWire.com, the independently produced film and Best Picture Oscar winner, "Moonlight," was made with a budget of $1.5 million, the lowest cost of any best picture winner in history (in adjusted dollar value). In fact, making the film cost less than a 30 second tv ad shown during the Oscar ceremony ($2.2 million) at which it was named Best Picture.
