Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman was national finance co-chair of the Chris Christie presidential campaign. But she is denouncing his endorsement of Donald Trump, calling it "an astonishing
display of political opportunism." On "Meet the Press" she gave further vent to her disapproval of Trump, saying that he is unfit to be the president, and called him a dishonest demagogue who plays to our worst fears.
Whitman went even further, citing the many negative things Christie had said publicly about Trump's qualifications -- including, just a few weeks ago, that Trump is not fit to be president. She added: "The Governor is mistaken if he believes he can now count on
my support, and I call on Christie's donors and supporters to reject the
Governor and Donald Trump outright. I believe they will. For some of
us, principle and country still matter."
Nikki Haley also expressed surprise at the Christie endorsement, saying "None of us know why he did this." I beg to differ. It's very clear to me. Christie, who reminds us at every opportunity of his excellent record as a U.S. Attorney, wants to be Attorney General. The deal has probably already been sealed with The Donald as the price of Christie's endorsement. Remember, Trump is the man who "makes deals." Christie does too.
